It is estimated that osteoporosis affects half a million women and 200,000 men in Serbia.
Treatment reduces the risk of hip fractures, which carries a high mortality rate: 20 percent of women die within the first year of hip fracture, while the percentage of men is even greater.
There is a high degree of disability, because half of the people with hip fractures never retrieve their previous quality of life. Also, a stroke is diagnosed annually between 25,000 and 30,000 people in Serbia. Only a third recover after stroke and can live independently, while others become permanently disabled and dependent. After the age of 55, the risk of stroke doubles in each successive decade of life.

Age is characterized by the presence of one or more diseases, ameliorating a process of adaptation, rehabilitation and socialization. Most diseases are cardiovascular and cerebrovascular, malignant, endocrine, of the locomotive apparatus, rheumatic, hearing and sight, various psychological disorders and psychiatric diseases. All these conditions in geriatrics have a tendency of slow development and represent chronic illnesses.
Under these circumstances, most users require ongoing assistance of an other person. In addition to solving the problem of health insurance, social workers must deal with social security problems, purchasing wheelchairs, prostheses and other aids. Difficulties in hearing, eyesight, heart and blood vessels, difficulties in moving, diabetes, do not impair the ability to socialize and do not prevent the strengthening of its own resources and potential.
